Minnie had a very exciting time this weekend. She got to ride up to Pilot Mountain, which is only about 20 minutes away from here, and do a little doggy hiking (a very little). PM is incidentally near Mt. Airy, birthplace of national treasure Andy Griffith and, I'm guessing, the inspiration for Mayberry. I can't seem to get a straight answer on the subject.
PM is pretty kickass to look at, actually--kinda like something out of Lord of the Rings. It was double fun for Min because it meant 1) a car ride and 2) a chance to snoop around in a new place. The ride up the mountain was very corkscrewy and steep-- which is always a little scary, because for some reason people think it's a good idea to zip around mountain roads like they are flat ground. Got it, dude, you're a big man in a big vehicle. Get over yourself.
Minnie insisted on standing up for the whole thing, meaning that every hairpin turn sent her crashing around even though she was wearing her little doggie seat belt.
It was all so exciting. On the way to the park we drove past an alpaca farm--a first for both of us. Had I really never seen an alpaca before? Guess not. When we got to the top of the mountain, I was disappointed to find other people there. I hadn't realized it was an actual tourist attraction, but then that explained the dumbasses zipping along the road, didn't it? I guess mentally I'm still in the Georgia woods (ugh) where there's nothing anybody wants to look at.
While we're on the subject, what is it about natural wonders that attracts dumbasses? Excuse me, slow-moving dumbasses with large behinds. And why do they feel the need to hog the solitude at lookouts and talk about their Mary Kay businesses like it's a Denny's? If you are a Slow-Moving Dumbass with a Large Behind, you should rightly not care about nature. You should be home watching Nascar and waxing your minivan.
Anyway. SMDAWLBs notwithstanding, it was a cool outing, and Minnie made lots of friends. She got a lot of attention because of the way she'd stand up on her hind legs and bark at people she wanted to talk to. She just kind of goes for it, that girl. I think we can all learn something from that.
