What is it about women dancing in skimpy outfits that draws a crowd and slows traffic? Oh right, women dancing in skimpy outfits. The belly dance studio where I used to take lessons put on a little show on Saturday, and it was crazy. Everyone made all the hard moves seem really easy. And a couple of girls from my old beginner class did the dance we had worked on, and it was better than some of the more experienced dancers' routines.
The only disappointment was that I didn't get to see my current teacher dance. She had said she would be there, but maybe I misunderstood what she said. ("Are you gonna be in the show?" "Yup!" Hmm...) :-( I was looking forward to seeing her do her thing...I only get to see small pieces of her dances in class.
Former teacher performing a veil dance. She is the owner of the studio and actually refers to herself as "the queen." Actually, she is kind of the queen bee of belly dancers in this area...apparently anyone who teaches belly dance around here learned from her, so it all gets traced back to her. She is a very confident person and seems to really like the attention.
Dancing with her student troupe. The girl on the far right was always about half a beat behind the others, but I probably have no business picking on anybody at this point, given my own level of skills...This was a very cool dance. They had their snake arms totally in sync, and the girl on the far left does a killer shimmy.
Another student troupe dance. The girl in the white skirt had on the prettiest outfit. Very mermaidy.
This chick is hardcore. Yes, that's a sword dance she's doing. She had it balanced all kinds of places.

Catching up on some cheekykitten! Yes, sword dancing is hard core! It is the bad ass dance of the belly dancing world! Wish you lived closer so we could be dancing dorks together!
